Students take on biosecurity quest and agricultural adventure this National Science Week
This National Science Week Territory school students will meet scientists on the frontline protecting Australia from exotic pests and diseases, threatening agricultural and livestock industries.The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries is hosting two events for students this national Science Week which runs from 9-17 August 2025.
Field Day at Bullo River Station
The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries has partnered with Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) to host a field day at Bullo River Station next Wednesday 20 August 2025 10am – 5 pm, with a BBQ dinner to follow.Comprising 400,000 acres Bullo River Station is a working cattle station and luxury tourism site located 800 km south-west of Darwin and 200 km east of Kununurra.
Strengthening the NT’s Animal Protection Laws
The NT Government is ensuring the NT has some of the strongest animal protection laws in Australia with amendments to the Animal Protection Act 2018 and Animal Protection Regulations 2022 introduced to NT Parliament today.
The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF) annual bull and cow auction was held earlier this month offering high quality cattle selected for fertility and bred for the Territory’s conditions and markets.

NT Rec Fishing small grants awarded
The 2025 small grants round of the NT Recreational Fishing Grants Scheme have been awarded to 7 local organisations.They will share in over $99,000 in grant funding to deliver 9 projects that directly support and improve recreational fishing experiences and opportunities.

Barra Boost: over 100,000 barramundi released to protect iconic NT lifestyle
More than 100,000 Barramundi are being released into Top End waterways this dry season as part of the Territory Government’s commitment to supporting the Territory lifestyle – a major boost for recreational fishers.The fish include 109,000 fingerlings and 500 larger fish, all bred and raised at the Darwin Aquaculture Centre, which is operated by the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries.
Students explore Katherine Research Station
Last month around 30 students from Katherine High School and their sister school, Warakirri College in Sydney visited the Katherine Research Station to explore the ongoing research at the station and the various job opportunities within the agriculture industry.
Farm to Feed forum Katherine 2025
The Territory’s agriculture industry stakeholders converged in Katherine last week for the first Farm to Feed forum at the Katherine showgrounds.
