BeefUp Alice Springs: Insights, Innovation, and Industry Connection
Producers and industry representatives from across Central Australia gathered at the Old Man Plains Research Station on 18 July 2025 for the Alice Springs BeefUp Forum.
It was a day packed with practical insights, research updates, and new ideas to support productivity and sustainability in the beef industry.
The event kicked off with a welcome from Nicole Hayes of Undoolya Station and updates from Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) and the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF), including the latest on The Sweet Spot project from Dr Robyn Cowley.
Panel discussions explored market access, supply chain connections, and business performance, featuring Matt Dalgleish (Episode 3), Steve Cadzow (Mt Riddock Station), David Woolard (Teys Australia), and Ian McLean (Bush Agribusiness). Sessions on animal welfare and organic production showcased research on contraception, pain relief, and vaccine options for organic systems.
The afternoon delved into genetics and ag-tech, with presentations on sire selection, genomics, landscape rehydration, and artificial intelligence tools in both paddock and office settings. The event wrapped up with networking, drinks, and canapés, providing a valuable opportunity for collaboration across the sector.
BeefUp Alice Springs highlighted the strong appetite among Central Australian producers for innovation, collaboration, and practical tools to support the future of the pastoral industry.
