The Northern Territory Government is continuing to support innovation and growth in the recreational fishing sector through the NT Recreational Fishing Grants Scheme.

Round 2 of the 2025 NT Recreational Fishing Grants Scheme (NTRFGS) opens today, 18 August 2025 with eligible organisations able to apply for grants up to $75,000 in funding to support larger scale projects.

Applicants wanting to undertake strategic infrastructure projects that increase or improve access to fishing locations or create new recreational fishing opportunities are encouraged to apply.

The NT Government recognises the social and economic value of recreational fishing for the Territory, directly generating $144 million for the local economy every year.

This grant round is for strategic infrastructure projects that improve or provide new access to fishing locations and create new recreational fishing opportunities.

Previous recipients of the large grants have used the funding to support new fishing infrastructure, fishing waste recycling initiatives, fish habitat creation and more.

Last month Round 1 of the 2025 NTRFGS awarded over $99,000 in small grants to deliver nine community projects including fishing fun days for kids, seniors and people with a disability through the Katherine Game Fishing Club, the Palmerston Game Fishing Club and the Council on the Ageing.

The NTRFGS has been running since 2018, with the Northern Territory Government awarding $1.26 million to a wide range of projects that boost recreational fishing and sustainable growth of the sector.

Round 2 of the 2025 program is now open, and closes on Sunday, 5 October 2025.
