Territory mango industry boosts to NT economy

The Northern Territory’s mango industry has delivered another standout season, reinforcing its position as a powerhouse of the Territory economy and a major contributor to Australia’s agriculture sector.

Territory growers produced an impressive 4.3 million trays of mangoes in the 2025-26 season - a 7.5% increase on the previous season, equivalent to an additional 300,000 trays of juicy mangoes.

With 2.3 million trays harvested in the Darwin region and 2 million trays in the Katherine region, the season has once again showcased the strength of the Territory’s agricultural sector.

The Northern Territory leads the nation in mango production, supplying around 52% of Australia’s total mango crop. Territory mangoes are enjoyed across local and national markets and contribute to international exports to key Asian and global destinations.

The industry remains a strong economic driver for the Territory, supporting more than 3,500 direct jobs during harvest, and producing fruit across 6,350 hectares of mango farm land. This performance highlights the vital role of agriculture in rebuilding and diversifying the Territory economy.

The NT Government continues to back the sector through targeted research and biosecurity initiatives, focused on plant health, pest and disease management, and market access, helping build a productive and resilient mango industry that supports growers, jobs and long-term growth.

Earlier in the year, the NT Government secured a new domestic market access protocol that provides an ongoing pathway for Territory mangoes to be sent to Western Australia, giving growers greater certainty when selling their fruit interstate.
