National Bee Pest Blitz 2026 is underway
Every April, beekeepers across Australia take part in the National Bee Pest Blitz—a coordinated effort to protect our bees, honey industry and environment through early detection of pests and diseases.
Early detection is one of the most powerful tools we have against threats such as varroa mite. Regular hive inspections and strong surveillance systems provide the best chance for industries and governments to respond quickly, before pests become established and widespread.
Why your inspection matters
The Northern Territory (NT) is a declared protected area for honey bees, with strict controls in place to prevent the introduction of pests and diseases. Maintaining the NT’s varroa‑free status relies on the collective efforts of beekeepers reporting what they see in their hives.
Even simple checks can make a significant difference. Surveillance data supports:
- early detection of exotic pests and diseases
- rapid response and containment activities
- long‑term protection of the NT's bee and pollination‑dependent industries.
Report your results
To make participation easier, NT beekeepers can now use an updated online form to report pests and diseases.
The update includes:
- recording multiple hive locations in a single submission
- a streamlined process designed to support better surveillance across the NT
- faster and easier voluntary reporting after inspections.
To submit your beehive inspection report, go the Territory Services website.
Your reports help build an accurate picture of bee health in the NT and strengthen our biosecurity defences.
A small check helps protect a big industry. Let’s work together to keep the NT’s bees healthy.
