Meet Birgit Nielsen – Manager, Research and Information Projects
Birgit joined the department recently, in February 2026. She previously worked with the Department of Corporate and Digital Development as a records management specialist in Consulting and Advice.
A qualified and experienced information professional (BSc), Birgit is also a privacy and copyright expert, librarian, research assistant, information researcher, and an information and data manager.
She recently completed her MBA in ‘sustainable enterprise’, or in simple terms, how organisations can only be successful in the future when achieving value and economic growth while adhering to social inclusion and protecting the environment.
Birgit has lived in Alice Springs for 21 years, and joining Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF) feels naturally aligned with her background. 'I leaped at the opportunity to join DAF because I grew up on a farm near the Baltic Sea, and since then, I have had a genuine interest in farming and fishing,' Birgit said.
'Meeting DAF specialists and seeing their projects has been fascinating. As an Alice Springs local I am keen on learning more about cattle and buffel grass.'
Birgit’s commitment to research and information services, and her data management skills, makes her a valued member of the DAF team.
