Do you keep livestock — even just one animal or a pet
If you keep livestock on your property, you must have a registered Property Identification Code (PIC).
What counts as livestock
Livestock include (but are not limited to):
- cattle (all bovine), bison, buffalo
- deer, goats, sheep, llamas, alpacas, camels,
- pigs (including wild pigs)
- horses and other equines (ponies, miniature horses, mules, donkeys)
- emu, ostrich
- crocodiles
- poultry (including chickens, ducks, geese, guinea fowl, peafowl, quail, turkeys, pigeons and other domestic poultry).
A PIC is required regardless of
- property size (residential or rural)
- number of animals (even just one)
- whether animals are pets or agisted
- whether livestock are kept short‑term or permanently.
If livestock are kept on the land, a PIC is required.
Register or update your PIC, or find more information about biosecurity management plans.
