2026 Mango Roadshows
NT DAF recently participated in the Australian Mango Industry Association (AMIA) Mango Roadshows held in Darwin and Katherine on 10-11 August 2026.
The events brought together growers, researchers and industry stakeholders to share knowledge and discuss current challenges and opportunities facing the Northern Territory mango industry.
The Darwin roadshow featured presentations from NT DAF researchers covering mango production, pest and disease management, market access and biosecurity protocols. Attendees received updates on market access and biosecurity requirements that support continued access to domestic and international markets for Territory produce, as well as progress on Mango Twig Tip Dieback (MTTD) research and ongoing trials aimed at improving disease management practices.
PhD student with Australian National University (ANU), Vida Burger, shared an update on research investigating potential management options for MTTD. Presentations also highlighted practical Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies for mango orchards, findings from fruit fly host investigations in native trees near mango orchards, and research focused on improving mango productivity, fruit quality and the long-term sustainability of the Northern Territory mango industry.
The Katherine roadshow showcased NT DAF research focused on improving mango productivity, fruit quality and orchard sustainability. Presentations highlighted results from rootstock and scion yield evaluation trials at Katherine Research Station, providing insights into tree performance under local growing conditions, alongside research on postharvest quality management of selected mango cultivars to help maintain fruit quality and meet market requirements. Attendees also received updates on IPM approaches and fruit fly investigations, demonstrating NT DAF's ongoing commitment to delivering practical research outcomes for the Northern Territory mango industry.
The roadshows provided an excellent opportunity for growers to engage directly with researchers, discuss emerging industry issues and learn about practical, science-based solutions to improve orchard productivity, fruit quality and business resilience.
