Strengthening trade ties with Indonesia

The Northern Territory Government has led a NT agricultural delegation to Indonesia from 27-31 October 2025.

As part of the Rebuilding the Economy Strategy 2025, the visit aims to reaffirm the Territory’s position as a reliable and trusted supplier able to support Indonesia’s growing demand for protein.

Indonesia is the priority market for the Northern Territory, accounting for around 90 per cent of all NT cattle exports.

The Northern Territory cattle industry is current worth around $1.2 billion, and the Territory Government is focused on advancing investment opportunities and growing our export markets.

The visit will strengthen partnerships between the Northern Territory and Indonesia and reinforce the Territory’s reputation as a long-term, reliable supplier of live cattle and buffalo.
It will also provide an opportunity to showcase our agricultural capability and our commitment to high quality, sustainable livestock production.

Key stakeholders, including representatives from the Northern Territory Cattlemen’s Association and the NT Live Exporters Association, will accompany the delegation, demonstrating the strong government-industry partnerships that underpin collaboration, innovation and shared growth.

The visit includes meetings with Indonesia government officials, businesses and industry groups, and the Australian Embassy.

The program will culminate in the official opening of Top End Beef P/L, a new butcher shop and steakhouse in Seminyak, showcasing premium Australian beef and celebrating the strong commercial ties between Indonesia and the Northern Territory.
