The Northern Territory Recreational Fishing Grants Scheme (NTRFGS) is funded by the Northern Territory Government.
Recreational fishing is a huge part of the Territory lifestyle and directly contributes $144 million to the Territory economy, with a further $126 million of indirect economic activity generated in other parts of the economy.
The NTRFGS plays an important role in growing the Territory’s rec fishing sector, with funding going towards delivering programs, activities, events and infrastructure upgrades that support recreational fishing in the Territory.
Eligible organisations were able to apply for small grants of up to $15,000, for not-for-profit projects and activities that align with the objectives of the NTRFGS.
Some of this year’s successful recipients include:
- The Katherine Game Fishing Club to host the 2025 Kids Fishing Fun Day with hands-on fishing experiences and educational sessions
- The Council on the Ageing (COTA) to host Reel Connections with up to 150 seniors participating in land based and chartered fishing outings.; and
- The Palmerston Game Fishing Club Buddy Boats Day 2025 with members taking young Territorians with disabilities out on the water for some quality local fishing.
Since 2018, $1.16 Million has been awarded to a wide variety of projects and organisations through the NTRFGS.
Round 2 for grants up to $75,000 for larger scale projects to help create new recreational fishing opportunities will open in August 2025.
