Tangle bins installed at Casuarina Coastal Reserve for those who like to dangle a line
Do you like to dangle a line at Casuarina Coastal Reserve? There are now 2 locations to dispose unwanted fishing gear and rinsed bait bags.
OzFish Unlimited recently installed tangle bins at Buffalo Creek boat ramp and Rapid Creek fishing platform.
A tangle bin is a small waste receptacle specialised for collecting unwanted fishing line, tackle and rinsed bait bags. The OzFish tangle bin program encourages recreational fishers to take responsibility for their fishing spots to help keep these areas clean, safe and free from stray fishing gear.
While the majority of users at Buffalo Creek and Rapid Creek ensure their tangled line and fishing gear is disposed appropriately, the on-site tangle bin makes it easy to do the right thing. The added bonus is OzFish recycle discarded line and fishing tackle that could otherwise end up in our waterways or landfill.
OzFish is a charity that works across Australia to deliver inland and coastal habitat restoration projects in salt and freshwater and support recreational fishers to look after the health of rivers, lakes and estuaries. Casuarina Coastal Reserve Rangers were pleased to support the OzFish initiative at 2 locations popular with Darwin fishers. Ongoing, the bins will be managed and emptied by OzFish.
