Community members invited to provide feedback on proposed changes to Animal Protection Act
The Northern Territory Government has announced a four-month long consultation period to invite feedback on proposed changes to the Animal Protection Act 2018.
The extended consultation period aims to provide ample time for community members to consider the proposed changes and put forward their views and opinions on what is required to strengthen the legislation and ensure sufficient measures are in place.
The primary objectives of the Act are to ensure that animals are treated humanely, prevent cruelty to animals, promote community awareness about responsibilities and legal obligations associated with the care and protection of animals, and regulate the activities of persons who use animals for scientific purposes. The existing Act and Regulations are available online, and interested individuals can read the discussion paper and provide their comments on the proposed changes through the Haveyoursay website.
The consultation will close on Friday, 20 September 2024. This is an excellent opportunity for the members of the community to provide their feedback and opinions and contribute to the strengthening of animal protection laws in the Northern Territory.
