Native rice
This research aims to understand the best management practices for cultivation and processing of native rice and support Aboriginal business development and employment opportunities.
Working in partnership with the Australian Government’s Future Food Systems Cooperative Research Centre, Charles Darwin University (CDU), Queensland University of Technology, Pudakul Aboriginal Cultural Tours, Olive Vale Pastoral Pty Ltd and Canadian company, Myera Group, best practices will be developed from data collected over the life of the project and incorporated into reports that will include agronomic protocols and gross margin analysis.
The impact of factors including planting time, water use and nutrients, and cultivation in protected environments on grain quality and yield will be assessed throughout the trials.
