Evaluating selections of table grapes

Table grapes from Central Australia come onto the market in late November, as early as Emerald in Queensland. Depending on seasonal conditions, grapes out of the Northern Territory can have an early market niche if conditions are wet and grape quality is poor from eastern Australia.

The aim of this project is to screen CSIRO selections for potential commercial varieties that reduce production costs and poor budburst and low fruitfulness in sub-tropical regions. Early and late ripening types that extend the season are also sought. The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries conducts this trial under contract to CSIRO.
