Alice Springs Pastoral Industry Advisory Committee
The Alice Springs Pastoral Industry Advisory Committee (ASPIAC) is a producer lead group that provides advice to the minister and the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF) on technical issues and priority areas of research, development, extension, education and training that will improve the productive efficiency of the beef industry in Central Australia.
The committee, supported by Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA), is vital to ensure that research funding is being prioritised in areas that will directly benefit producers on the ground. ASPIAC also ensures accountability by monitoring the progression of government research projects and programs in Central Australia. DAF supports the committee by providing a staff member to be the secretary as well as a senior representative from the Agriculture division.
The committees have been closely involved in the development and ongoing monitoring of the department’s major projects in their regions. For a list of the current livestock industry projects, go to the Northern Territory Government website.
The chair of the committee also represents Central Australia on the North Australia Beef Research Council (NABRC) which is an independent organisation that helps ensure that innovation and learning in the northern beef industry addresses industry’s priority issues and is relevant to end users.
